Sustainability Statement

At Dublin City Council Film Office, we are deeply committed to supporting Dublin City Council’s bold climate ambition as set out in its Climate Neutral Dublin 2030 plan.

Our Climate Commitment

Dublin City Council’s Climate Action Plan (2024–2029) outlines a transformative vision: reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 51% by 2030 (relative to a 2018 baseline), becoming more resilient to climate impacts, and leading the transition to a low-carbon future.

DCC Film Office is proud to contribute to this effort by integrating environmental sustainability into all aspects of our operations and the way productions interact with the city.

Sustainability Objectives for Film Production

In line with the city’s climate action goals, our Film Office sustainability objectives include:

  1. Emissions Reduction: Encouraging and supporting production teams to minimise carbon emissions on location — through energy-efficient equipment, low-carbon transport, and sustainable energy use.
  2. Circular Resource Use: Promoting waste reduction, recycling, and reuse on set, aligned with the resource management priorities in DCC’s climate plan.
  3. Green Infrastructure Awareness: Supporting the use and protection of green infrastructure where possible, being sensitive to Dublin’s nature-based solutions and biodiversity goals.
  4. Community & Stakeholder Engagement: Ensuring that filming contributes positively to local communities and raises awareness of sustainable practices, in line with DCC’s wider mission to engage citizens in climate action.

New Requirement: Sustainability Policy

To formalise this commitment, from 09/02/2026, all filming applications submitted with a budget of €500,000 or more, must include a sustainability policy document.  For filming applications with a budget less than €500,000, we kindly request that you submit a completed copy of our sustainability check list which can be found here.

This policy should:

  • Outline how the production plans to minimise its environmental footprint across categories such as energy, transport, waste, and materials;
  • Set clear, realistic sustainability targets for the production.

  • Describe monitoring and reporting mechanisms (e.g., how you will measure emissions or waste);
  • Explain how any local community or environmental impacts will be managed or mitigated.
  • Identify any sustainability certifications or standards you intend to meet (if applicable).

We believe that by requiring a sustainability policy, we can make every production in Dublin part of the city’s journey towards a climate-neutral future.
